GET INVOLVED!
Chamber Project Teams

The Chamber of Commerce offers a multitude of ways in which investors can get involved. Project Teams play a critical role in the Chamber of Commerce. Some Project Teams plan and organize the activities of the chamber, others are involved in outreach and networking, still others provide recommendations to the board of directors, which are used to determine Chamber policies. All investors in the Chamber are encouraged to become actively involved.

ACT*BG

ACT*BG is the team previously know as the Chamber's Young Professional Group, but they have now expanded their aim to encompass a much more than just "young" professionals.  ACT*BG (which stands for Active – Community – Teamwork) has a mission to attract and retain professionals in the Bowling Green, Ohio area. Our efforts focus on connecting active professionals to each other and to the community through social, civic, charitable, educational, and professional development events. We are planning on having events on a bi-monthly basis.  Contact e.KilpatrickDirector@bgchamber.net for more information.

Advocacy Task Force

The Advocacy Task Force mission is to identify public and political issues at the local, state and national level to keep Chamber investors informed. Open to interested investors who want to be instrumental in legislative issues, meetings are held about once a month or when needed.

Annual Meeting and Dinner Dance

These team members assist the Chamber staff in planning and organizing the Annual Meeting and Dinner Dance slated for the end of January each year. This team begins to meet in late September.

Awards Project Team

This project team is split into three different small groups that meet once or twice to determine the recipients of the Citizen of the Year awards, the Athena awards, and the I Love BG award.

Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce Holiday Parade

The Holiday Parade is a community event sponsored by the Chamber. It takes place each year the Saturday before Thanksgiving. It requires a three-month commitment beginning early fall. Team members are asked to attend approximately five meetings and are instrumental in determining the parade theme. Team members are also asked to give of their time the day of the parade.

Budget and Finance

Evaluates the Chamber’s financial position and prepares a yearly budget for the organization. This project team meets three to four times between the end of August and the first of November.

Business Council

This project team focuses on developing and implementing seminars, workshops and speakers that are of interest to Chamber investors. Members of this team meet bi-monthly.

Delegates of the Chamber

Delegates of the Chamber are divided into two parts, Ceremonial and Welcome. The purpose of the Ceremonial Delegates is to attend ribbon cuttings sponsored by the Chamber.  The purpose of the Welcome Delegates is to visit new businesses on behalf of the Chamber. A desire to introduce yourself and getting to know more businesses in the community is a plus for this Task Force.  Members of each group will be encouraged to attend the New Investor Breakfast that the Chamber holds 3 times a year.

Education and Youth

This project team is divided into three separate areas of focus. The goal is to strengthen programs with educational entities, to continue to improve the High School Leadership program and Career Forum and to enhance the scholarship program. The overall project team meets quarterly to keep up to date on each sub group. As a member of the one of the following sub-project teams you are considered a member of the Education and Youth project team.

  • Scholarship: Members of this project are charged with developing and implementing a fundraiser for the sole purpose of scholarship awards. They are also charged with the duty of reviewing the scholarship criteria and selecting the scholarship winners. This team begins meeting in January, and continues through the end of April. The scholarship annual fundraiser is slated for the third Saturday in April.

  • High School Leadership: the High School Leadership program is a seven month commitment on the part of the students. Members of this project team are asked to advise on program development. This group includes the input of area high school counselors and principals.

  • Career Forum: members of this team begin the plans for the annual Career Forum in early November, meeting about four to five times before the second week in March.

Golf Outing

Members of this project team assist the Chamber staff in planning and organizing the Annual Golf Outing fundraiser.  This group begins planning in early May.  The date for the Annual Golf Outing is the Wednesday before Labor Day each year.  You may also volunteer to help the day of the event only.

Investor Services

Investor Services helps develop and evaluate ideas for cost saving programs for Chamber investors, and also works to identify and implement services of interest to investors.

Nominating Project Team

The nominating project team is responsible for identifying potential Trustees who are then recommended to the Board of Trustees. They are asked to meet approximately three times over the course of two and half months. New Trustees begin their terms at the beginning of January for a three-year term.
